Tigers Ranked 12th in Pre-Season Coaches Basketball Poll

College Hoop Coaches around the Country feel the Memphis Tigers still have something up their sleeve after finishing as National Runnerup last season.

The Tigers are ranked 12th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Pre-Season Poll.

1. North Carolina (31) 36-3

2. Connecticut 24-9

3. Louisville 27-9

4. UCLA 35-4

5. Duke 28-6

With everybody back, North Carolina is the Unanimous Number One Pick...

Followed by UConn, Louisville, UCLA and Duke in the Top 5.

Other teams of note, Michicgan State and Texas, two teams the Tigers stomped on their way to the Final Four, are 7 and 8...Memphis meets 11th ranked Gonzaga in Spokane Feb. 7..

There's Memphis at Number 12, and look at that, Tennessee is 13th, setting another stellar matchup when they meet in Knoxville January 24th.

Defending Champion Kansas is ranked 23rd.

As is usually their custom, the Tigers say they don't pay that much attention to the polls...but you can bet they feel the respect given a Top 15 National ranking...while Kansas, which lost about as much talent as Memphis, barely gets into the Top 25.

The Tigers will play CBU in their lone exhibition game Tuesday night at FedExForum.
