MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - David Duke has been dismissed...again. Yet another Memphis-area hotel kicked the former Klan leader to the curb as he planned a weekend conference.
The Drury Inn on Sycamore View at I-40 told David Duke to hit the road.
Some believe those staying at this Drury Inn will sleep much better knowing David Duke is not sleeping down the hall.
First, Duke was told he could not hold a news conference inside the hotel, where he had checked in for the night. Duke was later told to leave the hotel altogether. The former Ku Klux Klan leader getting a taste of what it is like to be turned away.
In a statement, a Drury Hotels spokesperson in St. Louis said, "The safety, security and undisturbed stay of our guests is always the #1 priority of Drury Hotels. In light of the recent events involving Mr. David Duke and out of concern for our guests, Mr. Duke has been relocated."
Earlier in the week, The Whispering Woods Hotel in Olive Branch caved to public pressure and a number of threats by canceling Duke's all-white conference set for this weekend.
"This is America. We're supposed to have the right to freely assemble," Duke said.
Duke came to Memphis with his entourage to announce the conference was still on, despite the set-back.
"We have now secured another location, another venue...in Mississippi, for this conference," Duke said.
Duke refuses to reveal the exact location or if his conference will even take place at another hotel.
Duke did say the conference will be near Memphis and that hundreds are still expected to attend.
