MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Police are on the trail of the "Big Foot Robber." The crook earned the name by using a big foot to kick in front doors in broad daylight.
There has been a recent spike in burglaries in some Memphis neighborhoods and residents in the area around Mendenhall and Poplar have been hit hard in the last month.
In the past 30 days, there have been almost two crimes per day within a one mile radius of the intersection of Mendenhall and Cole. 31 burglaries and 25 thefts from vehicles. One neighbor, who fears for her safety, did not want to be identified but does plan to join the fight against crime.
"I think in order to keep this neighborhood safe as it has been for 40 something years we've got to get together and stand strong and let them know we're not taking back our neighborhood. We've never let it go and we're not going to let it go," she said.
Residents from several different communities in Memphis will be mapping out a crime fighting plan at a meeting they are having Monday night at 5:00 at Galloway Golf Course at 3623 Walnut Grove Rd.
