Mayor joins volunteers in Orange Mound community cleanup

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton joined church leaders, civic leaders and citizens from across the community on Saturday morning to clean up Orange Mound.
Under the leadership of the City of Memphis Division of Community Enhancement, dozens of volunteers wiped out graffiti and cleared vacant lots.
Herenton says citizens need to be proactive in taking back our neighborhoods from blight.

"Quite frankly, the government cannot do the job alone," the mayor said. "It takes a sense of community pride, and just look around you - swing your camera around at all of these people - they care about their neighborhood."
Herenton says the Division of Community Enhancement plans to hold eight such community cleanup efforts in the city each year.
