Suspect arrested for stealing police cruiser, weapons

Memphis police have arrested a man they say is responsible for stealing a police cruiser, several weapons and another vehicle.

The man was already in custody around 8:00 Wednesday night after police responded to a burglary call.
While alone in the squad car, the suspect climbed into the front seat and drove off.
Police later located the squad car near the intersection of Mallory and Robinhood, but several weapons, including two shotguns and an AR-15, were missing.
Authorities say the suspect then stole another car and collided with a police vehicle, wrecking the stolen car behind a home in the 2800 block of Byrd Ave. early Thursday morning.

The suspect was transported to The Med for minor injuries suffered in the wreck.
He faces a number of charges, but has not officially been charged.
