Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare to lay off 99

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Ninety-nine people were notified Wednesday they would be laid off from Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, company president and CEO Gary Shorb said in a press release issued Thursday.

Shorb, calling it a "difficult decision," said the layoffs are part of an effort to streamline the company’s organizational structure, operate effectively, and position itself for growth in the future.

Economic conditions including reimbursement rates from Medicare and TennCare, along with the effect the global financial crisis has had on the company’s investments, led to the cuts, Shorb said.

Shorb said the company would offer assistance to employees looking for new jobs.  The number of layoffs could drop if other positions are found within the company.
