Police hope video will help identify store shooter

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Police need your help to catch a man they say shot and killed a father of seven.

The surveillance video could be the key to the murder case of a clerk at Sam's Food Market on Mississippi Boulevard. Memphis Police want you to watch the video closely.

Here's how the shooting happened: The shooter's gun is drawn from the moment he walked in the store Friday morning. On the video you can see customers running away. The shooter then runs behind the counter and tries to get into the cash register.

Memphis Police Department spokesperson Monique Martin said it is unclear when he decided to shoot the clerk.
"What we can see in the video is that the clerk did not do anything to make the suspect angry," Martin said.

Martin said investigators hope someone will see something or someone in the video that could help solve the case.

"Hopefully someone can recognize anyone in the video, perhaps what the suspect was wearing, and help police identify who he is so we can get him of the streets," Martin said.

Co-workers called the clerk a loving and devoted father.

"This whole thing is senseless and we need to bring this person to justice," co-worker Yusef said.

Police also want to hear from you if you saw anything unusual at Sam's Food Mart on Thursday. That is the day police received a call that there was a man in front of the store acting suspicious.

If you can help solve the case, call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
