Collierville set to swear in new mayor

COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - Monday night, the city of Collierville will swear in a new mayor - a man with big plans.

Outgoing Mayor Linda Kerley has been Collieville's Mayor for almost 10 years. She wholeheartedly supports the new mayor, who is a familiar face.

Stan Joyner has been a part of Collierville's government since 1987 - more than 20 years. He started in the planning department, and became town alderman multiple times. Now, the State Farm agent will be sworn in as mayor.

His biggest challenge this upcoming year is the economy, working with the budget, public safety and continuing the smart growth of Collierville.

"We'll be concerned about balanced growth balanced from the business community as well as the residential community. We'll always do what we can do to protect and support our local schools here," Joyner said.

About 44,000 people live in Collierville.

When Stan Joyner becomes mayor, he will not get a big salary or fancy new car.

His salary is just $15,000 a year, with no car allowance or perks.
