TSA offers tips to ease airport stress

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - This Thanksgiving, everyone has at least one thing to be thankful for: lower gas prices.

According to MemphisGasPrices.com, year ago a gallon of gas guzzled #3.07.

Just a month ago, that cost was $2.50.

Now, the average price is $1.71.

The prices mean thousands of Mid-Southerners will be able to hit the road without breaking the bank.

Thousands more are going much farther, so they'll ride the skies.  Transportation Security Administration officials said Monday they want to make sure arrives at Grandma's in a thankful spirit.

So here are some tips:

  • Arrive at the airport and hour and a half early.
  • Leave yourself an hour to get through the ticket line, and another half hour to make it through security.

"Have your boarding and ID available and be ready to remove your shoes and jacket," TSA Officer Patricia Talley said. "Have all of your liquids in three ounce bottles in one quart bag."

This year, there's a new line families can take to speed the security process up. It just opened last week.
Officials said the family line for people who need extra time won't necessarily be slower.  The checkpoint has liquid explosive detection equipment to speed the line up.
