Edmonson investigators looking for answers following fires

EDMONSON, AR (WMC-TV) - Edmondson, Arkansas is a town of barely more than 500 people.

But in just two weeks, four of its buildings have burned to the ground. And investigators said each case is suspicious.

Pastor Oza Brewer is hoping faith will help his church rise above the ashes.

"It's kinda like a monument to the community and a lot of people can't understand why somebody could do a thing like this," Brewer said.

Charred brick and rubble is all that's left of Edmondson Church of God & Christ. It, along with three abandoned homes, are all being investigated as arson. The latest fire happened at a home on Main Street Saturday night. Investigators said someone set fire to all four buildings within a two week period.

"Yes, they have similiarites. However, is it all the same person?  We're not ruling that out.  I wouldn't rule out if it is different people either," Det. Walter Voyles with the Crittenden County Sheriff's Department said.

Deacon James Mitchell, Senior has been a member of the church for 30 years. He said a lot of memories are now gone.

"I miss the church very much.  I've been going around there all my life.  I was raised in that church," Mitchell said.

While these suspicious fires remain under investigation, Pastor Brewer says his 13 member congregation is looking forward to rebuilding. He said their house of worship may be destroyed, but not their spirit.

Authorities are offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest.

Call Crittenden County Crimestoppers at 870-732-4444.
