No travel problems noted as holiday weekend starts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Thanksgiving weekend travel is getting under way beneath clear skies with no immediate problems reported across Tennessee.

Transportation officials ordered a halt to road construction at noon on Wednesday and weather forecasters predicted no rain in the state as people began their travels.

Center, Texas, driver Jeff Alexander said at a southeastern Tennessee rest stop on Wednesday that his family was traveling to Forest City, N.C., after gasoline prices dropped, allowing their trip.

Larry McClure of Jonesville, Miss., stopped for fuel in Knox County and said he drove up the Natchez Trace Parkway through Nashville, calling it "a beautiful drive." He was headed to Wake Forest University to visit his daughter.

The National Weather Service predicted only a slight rain chance in western and central areas on Friday and daytime temperatures in the 50s statewide.
