Wreck leads to arrest of burglary suspects

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police busted five burglary suspects. Now investigators want to know if they are responsible for other break-ins.
Memphis Police say a call from an alert citizen regarding a burglary in progress led to the arrest of five suspects in connection to a number of burglary investigations in east Memphis.

Police have charged Zebulun Edwards,  Devario McDonald, Ashley Thomas and Deondre Johnson with aggravated burglary and various weapons and drug charges. Nathan Aldridge was picked up on a felony drug charge.

Police were called to the 4200 block of Charleswood where a person saw a suspicious vehicle in his neighbor's driveway. The car pulled away and when officers spotted it again, it had been involved in a wreck where it struck a tree in a front yard on Hillsdale.

Detectives recovered stolen jewelry on one of the suspects and in the car which was also stolen.

The investigation led them to an apartment complex where more stolen goods and drugs were found.

Police said they are aware of the significant rise in residential burglaries this year compared to this time in 2007.  They said people should expect to see aggressive patrols to catch more criminals in hot spot areas around the city.
