Suspects captured following morning police chase

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - For days, Memphis police officers had been hearing about two suspects in a specific getaway car breaking into parked vehicles. They sprung into action when they received another call about those same suspects on Friday morning.

"It's a shame to prey on hotel guests here for the holidays," said hotel manager Steve Smyka.

But that's exactly what officers said happened at the Doubletree Hotel on Sanderlin, where crooks broke into cars and SUVS, swiping anything valuable.

Smyka said crime is a constant fight that often leaves him feeling frustrated. "My staff and the guests have to spend half their day or part of their holiday dealing with this crime of opportunity."

Investigators said two men were seen breaking into cars in the hotel's parking lot on Thanksgiving. Then on Friday morning, surveillance cameras captured them in the parking lot again. Security called police and the chase was on.

Officers pursued the men from the hotel to I-240 and Norris in Midtown, where one was caught in the car. The other was caught on foot a few minutes later.

"It's kind of scary since this is the hotel I'm staying at for the next four days," said hotel guest Blaine Mitchell.

Police said the car the suspects were driving had been listed in several crime reports over the past few days.

The pair now face a long list of charges.
