Driver shoots another driver in road rage incident

OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - Road Rage on a Mississippi highway after one angry driver shot at another and sent his target to the hospital. Now, the search is on for the trigger-man.

The shooting happened along Highway 78 in Olive Branch, between the Bethel and Goodman Road exits.

The man who got shot is in stable condition at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. Olive Branch Police are still searching for the man who shot him. A fellow driver driven to violence.

The Horizon Travel Plaza in Olive Branch is a busy place. Hundreds of drivers pull in everyday. Employees hear a lot of stories. But none like the one they heard Monday.

"We see a lot of traffic all day long. It's usually wrecks out here. Nobody shooting at nobody," store employee Samantha Lawson said.

Witnesses said a driver heading toward Memphis Monday afternoon inadvertently cut-off another driver, forcing him off the road. That  driver chased down the victim, firing a single gun shot. A bullet ripped through the driver's side window, hitting the victim in the arm.

He pulled into a parking area and called for help. The other driver got away.

Lisa Lynch drives Highway 78 often and cannot imagine another driver getting that mad.

"Road rage is really bad and people have guns, so yes, it's kind of scary," driver Lisa Lynch said.

But Candace King said there is not much you can do to protect yourself.

"You really can't prevent it. Things happen. People are crazy," King said.

Knowing a driver is still on the road with a temper and a gun is even more unsettling.

Olive Branch Police said the suspect is driving a tan Nissan Altima. Unknown year. Unknown license plate information.
