Memphis family escapes house fire; accelerant to blame

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - An overnight fire left one Memphis family out in the cold.

Firefighters were called to a home at 2082 East Raines Road, near the airport, just before midnight.

Firefighters said the home's residents were burning wood in the fireplace when they added an accelerant to the fire - something fire officials warn against.

The fire got out of control, spreading from the fireplace into other areas of the home and damaging the kitchen and attic.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the flames.

The home had working smoke detectors, and all occupants managed to excape without injury.

Firefighters did rescue a puppy from the home.  The puppy is said to be fine.
