Officials seize 6 Alamo compound children

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas child welfare officials say they took in six more children Wednesday from the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries.

Julie Munsell, a spokeswoman for the Arkansas Department of Human Services, declined to immediately offer any other details about the seizure.

Meanwhile, child welfare officials visited an Alamo compound just outside of Los Angeles.

Louise Grasmehr, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, tells The Associated Press that officials likely went to the compound in Santa Clarita at the request of federal agents. No children were taken into state custody.

Alamo, 74, faces federal charges in Arkansas that he took children across state lines for sex. Arkansas officials have previously taken 26 children associated with the ministries into custody.

Alamo formerly lived in Nashville and was once convicted of tax charges in Memphis.
