Former MPD officer shot dead outside bar

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - A former Memphis police officer was shot dead outside a bar in Jackson, Tennessee on Sunday.

Shattered glass, a bullet hole in a window and the remnants of crime scene tape marked the scene at Spanky's Bar and Grill on Sunday. Euhommie Ollie Bond, who worked as a sheriff's deputy 25 miles away in Haywood County, was the bar's owner. He was killed there while trying to break up a fight early on Sunday morning.

Bond clocked out from deputy duty at 2:00 a.m. At 4:00 a.m., a fight broke out inside his bar.

Bond and his security detail tried to escort a patron outside. At the door, it turned into a scuffle that spilled into the parking lot.

Police say the patron pulled out a gun and shot Bond in the stomach.

Jackson Police arrested Michael Robinson, who now faces murder charges in connection with shooting and killing an off-duty deputy.

Bond had been employed by the Haywood County Sheriff's Department for about three months.

"He was a people person," said Haywood County Sheriff Melvin Bond. "And he was a dedicated man toward helping his fellow people."

Robinson faces a judge on Monday morning.
