DeSoto Co. clinic reduces services

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - DeSoto County supervisors have asked the Mississippi Legislature to allow it to give public tax dollars to a private non-profit clinic that has recently reduced its services following the resignation of its nurse practitioner and office manager.

Officials say the DeSoto Health and Wellness Center is no longer seeing patients.

The facility's nurse practitioner took another position two weeks ago, and within the past few days, office manager Cathy Teat resigned to take another position.

The six-year-old clinic, which accepts fees based on a sliding-scale basis, has managed to remain open since the resignations, but without a full-time staff member to regularly diagnose and treat patients it has had to refer patients to other facilities.

The search for a nurse practitioner is underway.
