China's exports fall for first time in 7 years

BEIJING (AP) - China's government said exports from the country fell in November for the first time in seven years, reflecting slowing global demand for Chinese products.

Government data released Wednesday showed November's trade surplus widened to a new monthly record of $40.1 billion as exports fell by 2.2 percent from the same month in 2007 and imports fell even faster.

The drop in trade adds to pressure on China's government to keep the economy growing and avert widespread job losses following the closure of export-dependent factories.
