Company takes up collection to pay off woman's mortgage

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Inside a tiny home in Thursday in north Memphis, employees from Franklin Electro Fluid received big hugs of appreciation from Ida Morris, after they took up a collection to pay off the mortgage on her home.
"Thank you Jesus," Morris said. "It's a blessing."

A blessing because Morris' family needed $4,000 to avoid foreclosure on their home.

"It came to this point because my husband fell ill and we fell back in our bills," she said.

After an employee at Memphis' Franklin Electro Fluid saw Ida's story on Action News Five, she sent out an e-mail asking co-workers to take up a collection.

"As we read the e-mail we were all so touched and that was the actual the that's the reason for the season, is to do something like that, instead of just giving gifts to individuals," employee Eloise Thurmond said.

In a bedroom, Morris unpacked the boxes she was prepared to move with, saying her prayer for the last several months has been for God to see her family through.

"It was very hard to face that situation, you know? Your bills are due, and you don't have money to pay for you bills. It really stresses you out," she said.

But now, there's no stress, only thanks for those who reached out to help her...

"Being a Christian we know, we know what it means to share with each other," Thurmond said.

Employees say their next goal is to get Morris' broken heater fixed.  Morris also received help from Memphis Area Legal services.  The agency has a fair housing center that provides free advice to homeowners who have received foreclosure notices.
