City spokesperson robbed for 2nd time this year

Gale Jones Carson, the current spokeperson for MLGW and former spokesperson for Mayor Willie Herenton, became one of the city's latest crime victims this week. This incident marks the second time Jones Carson has been robbed in the past year.

Her home security cameras captured images of a man prying his way into the back door of her home on Wednesday.

"What's interesting is these doors were special security doors that I had ordered last year after a previous break in," she said.

While Jones Carson was at work and her security alarm alerted police, the robber had just enough time to steal a computer and other valuables.

She says the Frayser neighborhood where she has lived for 27 years isn't what it used to be, but adds that, for now, moving is not on her list of options. "Robberies are up everywhere over last year is what I learned from the police department," she said. "So, if I move from here, what guarantees do I have at where I move to that I won't get broke into again?"

Jones Carson's home is already protected by wrought iron doors, bars on the windows and a sophisticated security system, but she says she plans to further beef up security measures. "Next time, my alarm will go off when you touch my door."

Memphis police have made an arrest in the robbery.
