Body of teen found along road identified

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police continued to look for clues Monday after a teen's body was discovered along the side of a highway early Sunday morning.

Investigators said Jonel DeSilva, 18, was found near I-240 and Mt. Moriah just before 8:00am Sunday.

As investigators tried to figure out the circumstances of DeSilva's death, her mother, Toni Ladmirault, fought back tears.

"I just want to know what happened to her, and why they just had to throw her body on the road...she didn't deserve it," Ladmirault said.

She cannot fathom who would hurt her 18-year-old daughter.

"Jonel, she was a good girl, loving person, a person that would help others, and whatever she could do for anybody she'd do," Ladmirault said.

Investigators don't yet know DeSilva's exact cause of death, but are treating the case as if she was hit by a car.  Police believe she was last with her boyfriend, and they want to interview him.

DeSilva left behind a two-year-old daughter.

"How could you explain it to a two-year-old that your mom got thrown on the side of the road and somebody just rolled over her body? It's not right to do nobody like that, Ladmirault said.

Investigators are still waiting to hear from the medical examiner.
