Body of missing boater found on Christmas Day

Update on December 25, 2008:  The body of a missing boater was found on Christmas Day.

Ronald Miller, 62, was located about 2:20 p.m. Thursday.

TERRA ALTA LAKE, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - Search crews worked in overdrive on Christmas Eve to find a man who went missing after his boat capsized in the middle of a Mid-South lake on Tuesday evening.

Rescuers battled rain, high winds and rough waters as they continued their frantic search for Ronald Miller, 62, who went missing on Terra Alta Lake, 10 miles east of Somerville, Tennessee.

Crews brought in cameras, sonar equipment and cadaver dogs to help with the search.

They spent the day dragging the water, hoping to recover Miller's body.

Authorities say Miller and ex-wife Cheary Prince were towing a boat across the lake when it began to fill up with water around 5:00 Tuesday evening.

Authorities said Prince managed to swim to shore with the help of neighbors, but Miller disappeared in the choppy waters.

Sheriff Bobby Riles says weather continues to play a major role in the search. "Today we had about an inch and a half of rain after a front came through. Now temperatures are getting colder. It's really hard on the people working out here in the boats."

Authorities called off the search at nightfall on Wednesday, and will resume search efforts on Christmas morning.
