Bush withdraws pardon issued Tuesday

WASHINGTON (AP) - President George W. Bush has taken the apparently unprecedented step of revoking the pardon of a man he has just pardoned.

Real Estate developer Isaac Robert Toussie of Brooklyn, N.Y., was among 19 people who received presidential pardons Tuesday. But the White House revoked Toussie's pardon, citing news reports about his crimes and thousands of dollars in Republican contributions by his father.

Toussie served five months in jail for mail fraud and lying to the government.

The New York Daily News reports Toussie is accused in a lawsuit of luring hundreds of poor, minority homebuyers into buying overpriced homes with bad mortgages. One woman who says her house started to fall apart as soon as she moved in was shocked to hear he Toussie been pardoned.

Under the Constitution, the president can pardon anyone for anything at anytime. The power is absolute.
