Oh what a difference a game makes for Memphis Tigers Freshman Guard Tyreke Evans.
There is significant indication now that Evans will take over as the Starting Point Guard after his efficient effort at the One Position in the Tigers Blowout win over Drexel Monday..
It comes on the Heels of one of Evans worst performances last Saturday against Number-11 Syracuse..
You remember that game...Evans only 2 of 9 from the floor with 6 turnovers and just 5 points..
Struggling to get on the same page with Head Coach John Calipari, THIS was Evans after the loss.
"Coach was putting me in and taking me out and it was kind of frustrating." Said Evans. "I know he was switching my game up to what the NBA likes but it was rough for me. I've just got to learn."
The Mood much more pleasant for Evans now after showing his ability to handle the rock against Drexel.
The 6'6" guard dominated his new position with 20-points, 4-assists and 3 Rebounds..
He acknowleges the point guard experiment is one he wants to continue.
"Coach told me I'm going to have keep working at it and it's between me Wesley and we'll keep practicing at the point. i like it."
Adds John Calipari
"I told him it's not set. I want to see how he and Wesley work it out.. But it's early and it's rough and i've got to figure it out."
The Tigers hope Evans play at the point proves a late Christmas present..
Memphis hosts Cincinnati next December 29th at FedExForum.
