Wal-Mart employee returns found money

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - A Wal-Mart Supercenter employee in Searcy listened to his conscience this holiday season when he came across an envelope filled with cash in a shopping cart.

Brian Metz, a graduate of Harding University with a degree in Biblical languages, gave the envelope containing $600 to police.

The envelope was locked into the Searcy police's evidence room as officers awaited a report from a distraught citizen.

But that report never came.

It wasn't until family friends of 80-year-old Wavel Cole of Judsonia noticed a small police blotter item in the Searcy Daily Citizen that anyone knew what happened the elderly woman's money.

On Monday, Officer Kara Osborne gave Wavel her money back.
