Gov's lawyer asks panel to subpoena Obama staff

CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's lawyer wants the legislative panel considering impeachment to subpoena more than a dozen witnesses -- including President-elect Barack Obama's incoming chief of staff.

The head of the state House committee says she's gotten the request to subpoena Congressman Rahm Emanuel and more than a dozen others, including Valerie Jarrett and Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.

It's unclear how the committee will respond. It meets again Monday.

Blagojevich's lawyer tells the Chicago Sun-Times that testimony from Emanuel, Jarrett and Jackson will help prove the governor's claim that he didn't do anything wrong in his handling of Obama's Senate seat.
