Man shot in head after arguing with strangers dies

Memphis police are investigating a drive-by shooting in which a 21-year-old man was shot in the head after arguing with strangers. He died at The Med on Sunday morning, hospital officials said.

The shooting occured in the 3600 block of Grey Road near the National Cemetery around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses told police that a white Toyota drove erratically down the street, and three or four men in the car got into an argument with a group of people outside.

They said the car drove off, but then returned, and several shots were fired at the group from inside the vehicle. One of those shots hit Tarulvus Boyd in the head, and he was transported in critical condition to The Med, where he died Sunday.

Some of Boyd's relatives became very emotional and had to be detained by police at the scene on Saturday evening.

"We had some people who were becoming emotional to the point that it was interfering with the crime scene," said Maj. Terry Landrum of the Memphis Police Dept.

The victim's brother said the shootings have to stop. "I've been upset at how the police have handled it. It's nothing they're going to do," said Troublesom Boyd. "He'll be out 2 to 3 years roaming the street again, ready to kill somebody else."

He says his brother wouldn't have done anything to provoke the shooting. "My brother be with us every day. That's my best friend," he said. "I just lost my momma, now my brother just got shot. It's just too much."

Boyd says his mother died from an illness.

Police say there's no indication that the shooting was premeditated or gang related.

Investigators are searching for those responsible for the shooting.

Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
