Investigation of deadly Collierville fire continues

COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - Officials with the Collierville Police and Fire Departments continued their investigation Monday into a Christmas Eve blaze that killed a woman inside a house on Ashfarm Way.

Firefighters found 54-year-old Kathleen Brown, dead inside her home after the fire.  Since then, investigators have been working the case, but they still don't exactly how, when, or why she died.

Meanwhile, neighbors remain concerned about the suspicious nature of the blaze.

"I'm really concerned," neighbor Caroline Gilbert said Monday. "I know the houses aren't that old, and if nothing else, you worry about the electrical system and wonder if perhaps something's wrong with yours."

The Shelby County Medical Examiner must first determine an exact cause of death.  Collierville police say they're still waiting on a full toxicology report, too.

Fire investigators believe the fire is suspicious in nature, but they cannot release any other details nor confirm that it's arson.

Collierville Fire Chief Jerry Crawford said Monday he wants to re-assure people that they're safe, and there is no immediate threat.

Crawford called the fire an isolated event and, "not an act of someone that will be repeated."
