Robbers target Mid-South assisted living facility

BARTLETT, TN (WMC-TV) - Police are looking for two men who robbed a Mid-South assisted living facility over the weekend.

Not long after we arrived at Foxbridge Assisted Living near Bartlett late Tuesday afternoon, the gate was shut and locked.  Action News 5 interviewed marketing director Kathy Garbus through the bars.

According to Garbus, security is now top of mind after a frightening robbery early Sunday morning, when two armed men entered a housing pod and assaulted an employee who was on duty while elderly residents slept.  They tried to tie up the woman before stealing cell phones and a plasma TV.

An alarm may have scared them away.

"People here don't have jewelry or money or anything like that," Garbus said. "Furniture and maybe a TV, and that's about it."

Nobody knows how the armed men got in. They may have jumped over the fence.

The employee who had a pistol shoved in her side was too upset to be interviewed for this story.

Susan Womack, who has a friend living at Foxbridge, couldn't believe what happened.

"That is pretty lowdown when somebody comes to an assisted living facility to rob somebody," Womack said.

Womack was happy to hear the facility wasted no time in improving security.

"We want our people to be safe -- especially our elderly people who can't protect themselves," she said.

Investigators said there's not much to go on when it comes to the robbers, and no one saw a getaway car.  If you know anything about the robbery, call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
