Bus company sues over scrapped schools contract

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A bus contractor has sued the Memphis city schools, claiming its contract was unfairly terminated.

SchoolTrans LLC carried special education students and provided supplemental transportation for the Memphis Board of Education.

The Commercial Appeal reported the company claims in a $4.5 million breach of contract lawsuit that reasons for canceling its deal were not valid.

SchoolTrans attorney Bill Jeter said the school system claimed his client violated the contract by not reporting bus accidents in a timely manner and by not being prepared to carry students on the opening day of school.

The newspaper reported school board member Martavius Jones said the board would comment after members received the lawsuit.
