Arrest made in Monday morning sexual assault, shooting

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Three people have been arrested, and one person charged, in connection with a sexual assault and shooting early Monday morning.

Investigators said officers were called to Methodist Central Hospital shortly before 6:00am Monday, where two victims, a man and a woman, claimed they had been robbed and driven to a field, where the female victim was sexually assaulted and the male victim was shot.

The woman told police the incident started while she and her male friend were in parking garage near her apartment in the 500 block of South Highland. There, she said, they were approached by three suspects, one of whom was carrying a gun.

The victims were forced from their vehicle and placed on the ground.  The suspects then forced them back into their car, the woman said, and took the pair to a field, where the attacks happened.

Wednesday, Memphis police announced the arrest of three suspects.  One suspect, identified as 16-year-old James Earl Hamilton, was charged with counts of especially aggravated robbery, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, and one count of aggravated rape.

The two other suspects, both adults, have not yet been charged.

The male victim of the attack was taken to The MED, where he remains in critical condition.
