Gibbons to run for governor

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - Just hours after former Senate Majority leader Bill Frist announced he will not run for Tennessee governor, Shelby County District Attorney General Billy Gibbons formally announced that he will seek the republican nomination in the August 2010 primary.

Gibbons has served as the D.A. for Tennessee's largest county since November of 1996.

In a statement released on Saturday, Gibbons said he will work to fix the flaws in Tennessee's criminal justice system."As governor, I will place priority on two issues - crime and schools - that pose big challenges to our state and that we must address if we are to achieve a better future for Tennessee."

Gibbons will hold a news conference on Monday morning, and Action News 5 will be there to bring you the latest.
