It's easy to understand why people get so fed up with government. Three years ago, the federal government set a deadline of February 17 for the nation to complete the switch to digital television.
To meet the deadline, both broadcasters and the government would have to accomplish certain tasks. As broadcasters, we have done our part. On the other hand, government leaders have done everything they could to mess up the program designed to help people get a discount coupon to buy their digital TV converter boxes.
Now, on the eve of the deadline, the government has suddenly declared that the converter box program is out of money and people may not get the coupons at all. While we certainly don't want anyone to be without television service, we're opposed to a delay of this deadline.
Government officials need to move quickly to get this converter box coupon program back on track. They've made what should have been a simple program needlessly complicated. By the way, if you still need the converter box coupons, we recommend that you get on the waiting list now.
