Young man's murder stuns small Tenn. town

GRAND JUNCTION, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - A young man's murder has left a family and a small community stunned.

The victim's sister wants to know who fired the fatal shots that killed 24-year-old Andre Smith.

Veronica Smith says her brother meant the world to her."It's very hard. All I can think about is him in my mind. Taking it very hard."

Family and friends say they don't understand why someone would have murdered Andre Smith.

"Nice, mellow fellow, and to have that happen to him is very shocking," said friend Joseph Hunt.

Authorities said Smith and two other people were enjoying a quiet evening at a home late Wednesday night when a suspect or suspects forced their way into the house and began shooting.

The two others people inside managed to escape. Smith wasn't so lucky.

Authorities later recovered Smith's car where the suspects had abondoned it, in a wooded area about a half of a mile away.

"I guess they thought he must have had some money on him, and they were trying to rob him or something," said his sister. "And they just took the car instead because they didn't find nothing on him."

As the search for suspects continues, Smith's family says they're relying on prayers and support from the community to help them deal with this tragedy.

Anyone with information on this murder should call the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations or the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office at (731) 658-3971.
