Man charged with impersonating officer, assaulting woman

Memphis police have charged Keith Owens, 38, with impersonating a police officer and aggravated sexual battery.

Now that Owens is behind bars, the woman he's accused of assualting - who asked not to be indentified - is breathing a sigh of relief.

"I'm happy. I'm so glad they did, so he can't do it to anybody else," she said on Saturday.

The woman says she never imagined that a simple knock at the door would turn into such an embarrassing nightmare.
She says that, on December 30 of 2008, she had just returned home from a walk with a friend when she received a knock on her door. "I stood right here in front of my doorway. He told me to come outside. I said 'What for? I aint doing nothing'. He said it about three times, so I came outside."
The woman says Owens was wearing dark clothing, boots and a badge, and was carrying a gun.

Tarig Whitfield, the victim's cousin, was inside the house at the time and went to the door to see what was going on.
"He told me to get my...blank...back in the house before he shoot me," said Whitfield. "I come back in the house."

The victim says Owens then asked her to step around to the side of the house, where she says he assaulted her. "He had made me do some sexual things to him."
She says she'll sleep better now knowing Owens is behind bars.
