Walls woman prepares for trip to Washington

WALLS, MS (WMC-TV) - With just six days until the inauguration of Barrack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, millions of people are making plans to attend events in Washington D.C., including many from the Mid-South.

Count Walls resident Brenda Watkins among them.
"I just started screaming 'cause I just couldn't believe that I had gotten tickets out of 30,000 people, and I knew millions of people wanted to go," Watkins said Wednesday. "I was just so excited."

Watkins sent an email to Senator Roger Wicker's office the day after the election to see if she could possibly get tickets, but never imagined that she would actually get the chance to go.

"They responded in the form of an email, and it was Senator Wicker's Chief of Staff who responded to me," Watkins said. "She said I would like to inform you - you have two tickets to the inauguration."

Watkins will be attending the event with a girlfriend, and says when she reflects back to election night, all her emotions from that day come back to the surface.

"My sisters and I -- when we found out he had won -- we were on three-way and we were just crying, and I could not believe that we have an African-American president for the first time," she said.

It will be very a very emotional day for her.

"The world is watching us," she said. "I think its going to be great."

Watkins will be leaving this Saturday and staying through next Thursday. She says she still has to pinch herself, because she still can't believe she is going to witness such a life changing event.
