Mid-South soldier's body to arrive home Thursday

The grandmother of a Mid-South soldier who was killed in Afghanistan last week says her grandson devoted his entire life to serving both his country and his family.

The body of 20-year-old Corporal Keith Essary will arrive home in Dyer County on Thursday morning.

Family and friends are preparing a special tribute to an American soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, and they say he died doing what he loved.

"He felt that it was a very important calling, and even though he knew his chances of going to Iraq were about 98 percent, he still felt is was an honor and his duty to serve our country," said Essary's grandmother, Anita.

Essary was a 2006 graduate of Dyer County High School and a member of the Junior ROTC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer County High School. Burial will be at Mayfield Cemetery in Gibson County.
