For me, it was probably that day in 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin walked on the moon. Here were two guys who seemingly put their pants on the same way I did, proving that almost anything is possible.

For millions of people of color in this country and around the world, that day will be Tuesday, January 20, 2009 when Barack Obama takes the oath of office as the 44th President of the United States.

His inauguration is a great tribute to Mr. Obama personally, but it's also a tribute to every person in our nation who has ever worked to help achieve equal rights and opportunities for all people.

Those of us in the Mid-South know only too well that Mr. Obama was able to participate in a debate for this high office at a public university that was not integrated when he was born. So Tuesday, as we celebrate Mr. Obama's great accomplishment, let's vow not squander this moment of inspiration.

If you can, watch the inauguration with your kids. Make sure they understand why our country is so great and that they are the ones who will make it even better.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
