Suspect dies after police shooting

A suspect shot by Memphis police officers after he lunged at them with a knife died early Friday morning, officials said.

The 42-year-old man died early Friday at the Regional Medical Center.

According to police, the shooting happened early Thursday evening in the 600 block of Honduras when two officers pulled over a pickup truck Thursday night, and the man got out and ran.

When they caught up with the suspect, the officers said, they struggled with the man, who ran into a house and got a knife. They fired when he came at them, and at least two bullets struck him. His name wasn't immediately released.

A Memphis Police Department spokesperson said the officers are assigned to the uniform patrol division, and have been placed on routine paid leave while the shooting is investigated.

Their names weren't immediately released.
