Southaven event to benefit Community Foundation

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - The Arena in Southaven is being transformed into one of the most famous streets in the world for one night only - the 9th Annual Crystal Ball, which supports the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi.

"It's their operating funds in order for them to do the wonderful things they do throughout the eight communities helping all the children of the area," event co-chair Lisa Beene said.

The Mardi Gras themed event will feature Cajun food and drink, as well as music and dancing. There will also be live and silent auctions, where one lucky winner will have a chance to dine with actor Morgan Freeman.

The Community Foundation is a charitable corporation that serves eight counties working with non profit organizations. Their mission is to connect people with causes that matter.

"Through the generosity of our donors, last year we were able to make more than150 grants that totaled more than 1.4 million dollars for organizations that are helping to make our area a better place to live," foundation president Tom Pittman said.

Organizers say the event is a sellout, and they are expecting approximately 800 attendees. According to Beene, if you want a ticket, you need to purchase one early.

"They need to next year plan ahead, plan early, find your gown, and come and have a good time," she said.
