INAUGURATION DAY EVENTS

9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Presidential Inauguration viewing/free admission to the Zoo
Memphis Zoo, China Theatre
2000 Prentiss Place, Memphis

Starting at 9 a.m., Mid-Southerners can come to the Memphis Zoo’s China Theatre and watch President-elect Barack Obama take the oath of office to become the America’s 44th President.  In honor of the historic event, the Memphis Zoo has extended their free entry hours to the entire day.  There are also no residency requirements for taking advantage of this one-day admission special.  Free admission hours on Tuesday are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Zoo will carry the inauguration ceremony all the way to the ride from the Capitol to the White House after 5 p.m.  For more information, call (901) 333-6500.

CITY AND COUNTY LEADERS CELEBRATE PRESIDENT – ELECT OBAMA’S INAUGURATION

The Holiday Inn Select - 2240 Democrat Road, Memphis

Shelby County Commission Chairwoman Deidre Malone and City Council Chairman Myron Lowery host inaugural brunch.

Attendees will have an opportunity to watch the swearing-in on several big screen televisions in the ballroom.  The menu will include ham, roast beef, lemon chicken, hickory smoked bacon, linked sausage, your choice of omelet, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, breakfast breads, mimosas and champagne.

National Civil Rights Museum – 450 Mulberry Street, Memphis
Auditorium, 1st Floor, and Rose Room, 2nd Floor

A live viewing of the inaugural ceremony for 44th U.S. President Barack Obama.  Event is FREE to the public on two giant screens. Inauguration commemorative items will be available at the Gift Shop. No museum tours will be conducted.

MISSISSIPPI DEMOCRATIC PARTY INAUGURAL GALA
Mississippi Museum of Art - 380 S. Lamar St. in Jackson, Mississippi

Attorney General Jim Hood, House Speaker Billy McCoy and other top Democrats will headline the fundraiser.  House Majority Leader Tyrone Ellis, Senate Democratic Caucus Chairman Gray Tollison and former Attorney General Mike Moore are expected to attend.

Tickets are $45 each. Dress is business casual, black tie-optional.

"YES WE CAN" INAUGURATION BALL
Peabody Hotel Grand Ballroom – 149 Union Avenue, Memphis

In celebration of the King Holiday and the inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama, we invite you to celebrate by attending the Miracle in Memphis, Yes We Can Inaugural Ball.  This celebration includes a night of food, music, a simulcast of the Inaugural Ball from Washington, DC.  Special Performaces & Guest Appearances include Memphis' Own Bar-Kays, "Funny Man" Prescott and Memphis' Watoto de' Afrika dance troupe.  Proceeds benefit the Memphis Food Bank.
6 p.m. – cocktails
7 p.m. - dinner and entertainment
Cost: $100 per person. Tables for 10 are available for $800 if purchased by Wednesday.
