COPY-No charges against Humbolt officer in shooting

Associated Press - January 21, 2009 9:55 AM ET

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Milan authorities say a Humboldt city police officer will not be charged in the shooting and wounding of her former boyfriend.

The incident occurred Nov. 29 at the home in Milan of Officer Melody Pierce.

The Jackson Sun quoted a police report which said Pierce shot Robert Kendall in the hip as he scuffled over a handgun with Hunter Stewart, another Humboldt police officer.

Milan Police Commander Bobby Sellers said that District Attorney General Garry Brown's office determined neither Pierce or Stewart committed any crime.

Kendall was charged Tuesday with criminal trespassing, assault and two counts of vandalism.
