Burglary suspect caught hiding in a closet

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A burglary suspect was taken into custody Friday after Memphis police caught him in a closet inside a home on North Watkins.

Resident Shannon Parker said it was a rude awakening.

"I never seen the guy until they were pulling him out," Parker said.

Investigators said the suspect entered Parker's house by breaking a window.  Then, he ran into a closet -- knocking things over -- to hide.

"He must have went in there and hid in the back room, probably getting just trying to get away from the cops," Parker said.

Police were hot on the suspect's trail, after stopping a burglary at this house a couple of blocks away.

"We've been trying to catch this guy for a few weeks," Memphis Police Lt. Robert Chalmers said.

Parker said the whole thing was pretty frightening.

"People that break into your house, you don't know don't know what's going to happen," he said.

Parker said the suspect has been pan handling in the area, and he tried to help him with a few donations. He believes that's why the man ran to his house.

"It's a pretty scary thought," Parker said. "People like this are in the movies."

Police say the suspect is facing two counts of aggravated burglary in Friday's incident, and likely other charges for other burglaries in the area.
