Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley confirmed he's hired former Grizz Assistant Lionel Hollins to be the New Head Coach. Hollins is now on staff with the Bucks.
Hollins twice served as Grizzlies Interim Head Coach, once when the team was based in Vancouver, and later after Hubie Brown abruptly resign in 2004.
Heisley says Hollins was a key member of Browns' staff on a team that went to the Playoffs 3-straight years.
He also confirmed offering the job to former Dallas Head Coach Avery Johnson, a proven winner.
But, Johnson turned him down.
Heisley bristled when asked if hiring Hollins was a move to keep costs down.
A common issue for the budget conscious team..
Heisley said, "There wasn't a Million Dollars worth of difference between, Hollins, Johnson, or any other coach I talked to."
That said, He added..
"After spending more than $100-Milliion Dollars on a team that flamed out in the Playoffs 3-straight years, i'm being prudent in a small market to make good fiscal decisions while trying to win."
