MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are looking for several suspects responsible for a random attack on one of the city's busiest roads.

Investigators said the incident happened while a 19-year-old was behind a Green Cadillac STS at a stop light on Germantown Parkway on Saturday evening.  When the light turned green, the Cadillac didn't go,so the 19-year-old honked.

John Harvey, systems manager of the Memphis Police Department's Real Time Crime Center, said the 19-year-old is his son.

"The guys in the car started flashing gang signs at him and throwing Coke on his car, trying to run him off the road," Harvey said.

Then, investigators said, one of the men in the Cadillac fired a shot from a handgun at the 19-year-old as he turned on to Rock Creek Parkway.  The shot missed.

"I got a phone call from my son, thinking when I answered the phone he was going to want meet up to eat or something," Harvey said. "It kind of surprised me when he said, 'Hey Dad, I just got shot at.'"

Harvey was at home, but got right to work, by logging into the Real Time Crime Center's computers.

"I was able to pull out seven vehicles in close proximity to that area within a matter of seconds, and sent that our to our team," he said.  "Someone could have easily been murdered."

Harvey said police have not caught the suspects yet, but he is confident they eventually will.

"Does that embolden me to make better software?  Yes it does," Harvey said.
