There's a new way to buy savings bonds. All you have to do is log on to the internet and go to to set up a Treasury account and have it debit your bank account.

The government verifies the information and within minutes your account is opened.
Right now, the only accounts you can purchase this way are inflation-indexed savings bonds, known as the I bonds.
Backed by the U.S. government, savings bonds are considered one of the world's safest investments.
