3 rushed to hospital following family brawl

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) -  Three family members were rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a domestic brawl spiraled out of control.

"Shocking. It's very shocking," said neighbor Dee Dee Jackson.

Memphis police officers swarmed a home in the 1000 block of Willett.

Beatrice Raybon says the suspect, her 32-year-old uncle Frank, suffers from a mental illness.

"He flips out at times," she said.

Just after noon on Thursday, the suspect burned the lunch he was cooking. His mother opened a door to clear out the smoke, which irritated him. The suspect closed the door and his mother opened it again. He then hit her.

The suspect's 16-year-old nephew sustained injuries when tried to intervene.

"First he threw my brother on the table, then he flipped the table over, and all the glass shattered everywhere," said Raybon, whose brother was transported to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center is non-serious condition.

The suspect's 76-year-old grandfather was transported to Methodist University after he sustained a serious laceration to his hand while attempting to stop the suspect from striking the teenager.

Investigators say the suspect sustained a stab wound to his back, but remained agitated when police arrived.

"The officer had to take the suspect into custody under gunpoint," said Lt. Robert Chalmers of the Memphis Police Department.

The suspect was transported to The Med in critical condition, but his condition was later upgraded to stable.

"I just pray they be alright," said Jackson.

Police say all three victims are expected to survive their injuries.
