Memphis police searching for suspect in young store clerk's murder

Memphis police are searching for the suspect who murdered 19-year-old store clerk Mohammed Alhady on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the armed suspect entered Food Town Grocery on the corner of Buntyn and Midland around 3:00.

While attempting to rob the store, the suspect approached an employee. That's when Alhady, who was working in the back, heard the commotion and ran out to assist his co-worker.

The suspect then shot Alhady.

Severely wounded, he ran after the suspect and collapsed outside the store.

He was transported in critical condition to The Med, where he later died.

Customers were inside the store at the time of the incident, but no one was injured

Neighbors gathered outside the store as the crime unfolded.

As authorities continue their investigation, residents in the Beltline community are in mourning.

"When stuff like this happens, you can't concentrate on what to do," said Mohamed Saleh, Alhady's friend.

Family and friends can't believe the Central High School graduate with a passion for soccer is gone.

"Nice kid...quiet kid...never bother nobody," said Saleh.

Beltline Neighborhood Association President Sharon Stone says the murder has left the entire community in shock. "Right now, it's a big tarnishment in our neighborhood, and I feel for the family right now."

Now many are left wondering why another young life has been taken too soon.
