Say what you want about Conference USA, but anyone will tell you, winning 48 straight in any
conference is a tough task.
The Houston Cougars were next in line to try and knock off Memphis, but they had the added
pressure of playing the Tigers in January, when the team is particularly potent...win their last
33 contests in the first month of the year.
An early tip for the Tigers and Cougars...usually not a good thing for Memphis, but no problem Saturday.
The Tigers with the hothand to start...opening up on a 15-nothing run, making their first 6 shots..
Doneal Mack had 18 points for the Tigers.
But after that hot start, the Cougars woke up...
Aubrey Coleman was in the news this week, coming back after a one-game suspension by the league and he made up for lost time.
Coleman hitting shot after shot for Houston, accounting for over half of the Cougars total points with a career high 35 points and nine rebounds.
The Tigers had just a five point lead at the half, but Coleman aside, the Tigers had Houston's number in the second.
All-five starters finishing in double figures.
But the day belonged to Robert Dozier...a Double-double 19 points, 10 boards as the Tigers win the cat fight with the Cougars, 83-68.
